Centenary Remembrance Service & Parade

Centenary Remembrance Service & Parade

South Normanton Parish Council would like to thank everyone who came along to the Centenary Remembrance Service and Parade on Sunday 11th November 2018. Our village community came together to remember and pay tribute to those who paid the highest sacrifice and lost their lives in battle and conflict.

A touching day was had by all when South Normanton saw throngs of people pay their respects and commemorate the end of the First World War. After 100 years this could not have been more poignant.

A large parade, lead by Mike Houch of the Royal British Legion, took place from the Market Place to St Michael's & All Angels Church where a moving service was held. The parade then reformed and headed to the Post Mill Centre were Reverend Stephen Potter led proceedings. A trumpeter played the Last Post and Reveille and a two minutes silence was held, before the Union Jack and the Lest We Forget flags were raised. A number of community groups laid wreaths as a mark of respect. Thereafter, local children then laid crosses which the Parish Council had provided. Everyone was then welcomed into the centre for complimentary tea and cakes.

The Parish Council would like to thank all parties involved for playing their valuable part on this very special day. Thank you.
